U.S. Junior Long Course Nationals: Four More Meet Records Tumble

IRVINE, California, August 12. THE fourth evening of competition at the U.S. Junior Long Course Nationals featured four more meet records falling by the wayside.

Palo Alto Stanford's Jasmine Tosky kept rolling with a meet record in the women's 200 free. She had all she could handle from Terrapins' Chelsea Chenault in a 1:58.54 to 1:58.92 touch-out triumph. Tosky beat Missy Franklin's meet record of 1:58.67 set last year. Fort Worth's Julia Anderson completed the top three with a 2:01.15.

Lakeview's Clay Youngquist took down a meet record of his own in the men's 200 free with a 1:49.37. That time clipped the 1:49.87 set by Kyle Whitaker a year ago. Sarasota Y's Nicholas Caldwell demonstrated some range with a second-place 1:50.79 after winning the 400 free and IM earlier in the meet. YMCA Westside's Tyler Messerschmidt earned third-place honors with a 1:51.14, while Peddie's Connor Signorin also cleared 1:52 with a fourth-place 1:51.20.

Swim Torrance's Vlad Morozov continued his remarkable run at Juniors with a meet record in the men's 100 back. He clocked a 55.46, lowering the 55.61 set by Patrick Murphy in 2008. SwimMAC's Kip Darmody touched second in 55.70, while Corvallis' Jacob Pebley took third in 56.33.

Palo Alto Stanford returned in the women's 800 free relay to blow away the meet record in the event. Camille Cheng, Tosky, Ally Howe and Maddy Schaefer checked in with a swift time of 8:12.97 to win the event, and crushed the previous meet record of 8:15.24 set by North Baltimore a year ago.

Terrapins' Allison Gargalikis claimed the women's 100 breast title in 1:09.84, while Santa Clara's Siri Eva Kristiansen finished second in 1:10.78. Aquajets' Abigail Duncan (1:10.82) and AGUA's Annie Zhu (1:10.85) also beat 1:11 to place third and fourth.

Wilton Y's Christian Higgins snatched the men's 100 breast crown in 1:02.95, coming up short of his 2009 meet mark of 1:02.29. Nitro's Zachary Gunn finished second in 1:03.13, while Fox Valley's Kevin Cordes placed third overall in 1:03.40.

Indiana's Taylor Wohrley cruised to victory in the women's 100 back with a top time of 1:01.55. Crow Canyon's Madison White tied with Northern Kentucky Clipper Caitlyn Forman for second with matching 1:02.21s, while West Coast's Cindy Tran took fourth in 1:02.36.
