The fourth installment of the TYR Pro Swim Series in Mission Viejo will have a wrinkle designed to prepare swimmers for the Tokyo Olympics, with finals flipped to the morning.

The announcement for the April 16-19 stop in California was made Wednesday. At the penultimate event in the 2020 Pro Swim Series, prelims will be held in the evening with finals the following morning. It’s an effort to acclimate swimmers to the calendar in Tokyo, where the morning swims will be the finals, to accommodate for the time difference between Tokyo and many major television markets across the globe.

Finals in Mission Viejo will start at 10 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time with prelims beginning at 5 p.m.

No announcement has yet been made on the format for the final TYR Pro Swim Series event of the season, the Councilman Classic May 6-9 in Indianapolis. The third installment of the season is being held this week in Des Moines, Iowa.

Among those scheduled to attend in Mission Viejo are Olympians Ryan Lochte, Nathan Adrian and Allison Schmitt as well as national teamers David Heron, Katie McLaughlin and Ella Eastin. The event will be televised by NBC Sports’ suite of networks.

Tickets for the event at the Marguerite Aquatic Center are on sale now.
