Toledo Nabs Seven Recruits

TOLEDO, Ohio, November 16. HEAD Swimming and Diving Coach Lars Jorgensen announced the signing of seven new swimmers for the 2007-08 season for Toledo.

"We are very extremely excited about the incoming class," said Jorgensen. "Both assistant coaches, Mandy Commons and Marie Canarecci, were instrumental in bringing high quality swimmers that are going to make our program more competitive."

Jacy Dyer of Lebanon, PA attends Cedar Crest high school and is a three year letter winner in swimming. She has been a three year state qualifier where she placed third in the 500 freestyle her sophomore year. During her junior year she placed second in the 200 and 500 freestyle and helped lead her team to a league championship. "Jacy is an outstanding distance swimmer who should have an immediate impact on our team," said Jorgensen.

Laura Heckroth of Columbus, IN attends Columbus North had an impressive junior year. She currently holds the conference and section record in the 200 freestyle and captured four top five finishes at the Indiana state meet. She is a two time All-Area Player of the Year and a four time All-American. "Laura is a very versatile swimmer," said Jorgensen. "She has the potential to swim high at the NCAA level."

Katie Jackson of Raleigh, NC attends Enole high school. This past summer she was a 100 and 200 breaststroke junior national qualifier she also holds the 15-18 and senior team records for those events. She was voted an USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. "Kate is going to be an impact swimmer for us," said Jorgensen. "She is very competitive in the breaststroke in many different levels."

Amanda Thompson of Monroe, MI attends Monroe high school where she was voted four times to the All-Conference and All-State team. "Amanda is already an excellent flyer but we think she still has a lot of room for improvement," said Jorgensen. "She will be a great addition to our team."

On the diving side, the Rockets signed Brittany Teneyck of Millbury, OH. She is the defending state champion in the one-meter dive and a 2006 Junior Olympic gold medalist. She is also Nominee for the Wendy's High School Heisman Honors. "Brittany will be a huge asset to our team and will add much needed depth to the diving," said Marie Canarecci.
