Thorpe to Address Aussie National Team Before World Champs

SYDNEY, Australia, February 18. ALAN Thompson, the head coach of the Australian National Team, has announced that Ian Thorpe will meet with team members in the coming weeks. Thorpe is expected to talk with the squad prior to next month's World Championships in Melbourne.

"I would like to come in and see the team and be able to do a few things," Thorpe said in an article in the Sydney Morning Herald. "I think it's important for some of the older swimmers, or swimmers that are past their prime or out of the sport, to be able to put back into the team. Not to give advice, but, if it's asked for, to be able to help some of the younger people and some of the more experienced swimmers on the team."

Thorpe's interaction with the Australian National Team is on an informal basis, but Thompson said a formal relationship is not out of the question at some point in the future.
