Third Week of ISL Campaign Features More Caeleb Dressel; London Roar Expecting Aussie Boost

The fifth and sixth matches of the International Swimming League (ISL) season will take place between Thursday and Sunday in Naples, which is the site of the league’s regular season. On Thursday and Friday, the L.A. Current will clash with Team Iron, the Toronto Titans and D.C. Trident. On Saturday and Sunday, the Cali Condors will seek their third consecutive victory when they face the London Roar, Tokyo Frog Kings and Aqua Centurions.

The Current will be favored to prevail when it returns to the water, with coach David Marsh’s squad relying on the tandem of Tom Shields and Abbey Weitzeil. Toronto is coming off a rest week and will look to teenage star Summer McIntosh to continue her impact, which has been strong in her rookie season with the Titans. In her last outing, McIntosh collected wins in the 400 individual medley and 200 butterfly, efforts that demonstrated her range beyond the freestyle events.

The Condors, who captured last season’s team title, have been unstoppable in their first two matches of the 2021-22 campaign. Caeleb Dressel has scored more than 200 points while Coleman Stewart set a world record in the 100 backstroke during the team’s season-opener. The Roar, meanwhile, should get stronger with the return of Australian standouts Emma McKeon and Kyle Chalmers. McKeon won seven medals at the recent Olympic Games in Tokyo while Chalmers was the silver medalist in the 100 freestyle.
