Thiago Pereira Closes Maria Lenk Championships With South American, Brazilian Record in 200 IM

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, May 6. THIAGO Pereira closed a strong performance at the Maria Lenk Championships with a South American and Brazilian record in the 200 IM in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Pereira grabbed the title in 1:58.64 to smash his previous time of 1:59.19 set on Feb. 19, 2007.

Other men's winners include Fernando Silva (49.63 – 100 free), Lucas Salatta (56.43 – 100 back) and Henrique Barbosa (1:10.96 – 100 breast).

Women's wins came from Therese Alshammar (55.05 – 100 free), Fabiola Molina (1:03.82 – 100 back), Tatiane Sakemi (1:12.57 – 100 breast) and Georgina Bardach (2:16.88 – 200 IM).

Pereira closed out the meet as the men's high-pointer, while Alshammar topped the women.
