The Morning Swim Show: Documentarians Talk About Upcoming Film Showcasing Blacks and Latinos in Swimming

PHOENIX, Arizona, June 14. ON this special edition of The Morning Swim Show, Brent Rutemiller talks to the producers of an upcoming documentary about Blacks and Latinos in swimming which culminated in capturing the moment Cullen Jones was named to the US Olympic swim team.

Josh Waletzky and Jenny Levison talk about the humble beginnings of their film, when they visited a small team in Boston to film the story of three young swimmers. When they met Cullen Jones and Maritza Correia at the National Black Heritage Swim Meet, the film took on a heftier perspective, and Waletzky and Levison discuss the two-year journey following five athletes as they find varying levels of success through swimming.

But more than following Jones to his dream of making the Olympic team, the producers say the goal was to showcase the challenges minority kids face in the sport.

The film has earned support from USA Swimming and other organizations who Waletzky and Levison said have helped spread the word about the film, which has yet to find a distributor.
