Texas Senior Circuit: Ricky Berens Doubles on Second Night

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, May 23. THE second night of long course meter swimming at the Texas Senior Circuit in College Station witnessed Ricky Berens winning a pair of titles for Longhorn Aquatics.

Kathleen Hersey began the evening with a victory in the women's 100 fly. She clocked a 1:00.15 for the win. Mustang Angela San Juan Cisneros placed second in 1:00.74, while Longhorn Caroline McElhany took third in 1:01.92. Longhorn proceeded to sweep the men's 100 fly podium. Berens (54.16), Dave Walters (55.24) and Andrew Wang (56.05) went 1-2-3.

Coral Springs' Lindsey McKnight, 15, topped the women's 100 breast in 1:09.93, while Elizabeth Tinnon placed second in 1:12.23. Tucson Ford's Julie Stupp claimed third in 1:12.52. Longhorn's Matthew Lowe won the men's 100 breast in 1:02.45 with Coral Springs' Vlad Polyakov (1:02.54) and Leopold Andara (1:04.08) completing the top three.

Obviously in heavy training, Kirsty Coventry of Longhorn finally broke through with her first title of the meet when she touched in 2:02.08 in the women's 200 free. Teammate Samantha Tucker took second in 2:02.28, while Hersey placed third in 2:03.90. Notably, McKnight won the B final in 2:02.55. Berens claimed his second gold of the night with a time of 1:51.74 in the men's 200 free. Teammates Michael Klueh (1:52.10) and Walters (1:54.65) placed second and third behind him. Garrett Weber-Gale of Longhorn won the consolation final in 1:53.99.

The Mustangs reigned in the women's 50 back. Martina Moravcova (29.14), Gabriela Soza (29.56), Petra Klosova (29.98) and Anja Carman (30.37) placed 1-2-3-4 in the event. Teammate Pontus Renholm won the men's 50 back in 26.53. Aggie Niki Denisyako took second in 27.32 with Plano's Tommy Sacco finishing third in 27.59.

Stupp cruised in the women's 400 IM with a winning time of 4:55.91. Aggie's Emily Neal finished second in 4:56.69 with Leah Gingrich pocketing third in 4:58.74. Bryan Collins of Longhorn snatched the men's 400 IM in 4:27.13. Mustang Ed Downes placed second in 4:29.88, while Andara wound up third in 4:30.29.

Alamo Area's Kim Pavlin, Danielle Spradlin, Claudia Carlson and Alexa Morris won the women's 400 medley relay in 4:32.18. Mustangs' Jack Beckwitt, Grega Plevelj, Nate Clark and Thomas Fadnes topped the men's 400 medley relay in 3:58.63.
