Texas Senior Circuit: Longhorn Dominates Second Night

AUSTIN, Texas, June 6. THE hometown team took control during the second night of the Texas Senior Circuit meet held in Austin as the Longhorns put together plenty of strong swims.

Kirsty Coventry of Longhorn snatched the first title of the night with a time of 4:08.50 in the women's 400 free. She downed distance freestyle specialist Flavia Rigamonti of the Mustangs, who took second in 4:09.29. Jessica Rodriquez of Longhorn wound up third in 4:12.85.

Michael Klueh of Longhorn shined in the men's 400 free with a time of 3:50.62, while teammates Sean Patton (3:57.35) and Craig Chapman (3:58.01) rounded out the top three.

Elizabeth Tinnon dominated the women's 200 breast with a time of 2:28.06, while Micah Lawrence, 17, of Gold took second in 2:33.77. Alia Atkinson of Comets finished just behind in 2:33.89.

In a surprising finish, new Longhorn teammate Scott Spann downed world-record holder Brendan Hansen in the men's 200 breast and did it fairly handily, 2:11.35 to 2:13.15. Sean Mahoney of Terrapin, meanwhile, placed third in 2:14.47.

Youngsters did well in the women's 200 fly as Cammile Adams, 16, of Fleet and Carol McElhany, 16, of Longhorn went 1-2 in 2:14.02 and 2:17.44. The Woodlands' Nuffy Swanson, 17, took third in 2:17.93.

Backstroke stud Aaron Peirsol of Longhorn showed some versatility with a triumph in the men's 200 fly when he hit 1:58.46. Teammate Ricky Berens finished second in 1:58.96. Trinity Prep's Tim Hughes grabbed third in 2:02.43.

The sprint frees followed with Martina Moravcova of Mustangs winning the women's 50 free in 25.74. Aggie's Triin Aljand placed second in 25.97, while Hee-Jin Chang of Longhorn took third in 26.00.

Longhorn's Garrett Weber-Gale picked up the men's title in 22.23, while teammates Matt McGinnis (22.70) and Ian Crocker (23.08) comprised the rest of the podium.
