Texas Longhorns Defeat TCU Horned Frogs in Dual Meet Matchups

FORT WORTH, Texas, January 25. NO. 7 Texas (4-3) swept all 12 events en route to a 147-74 victory over Big 12 Conference foe TCU Friday evening at TCU's University Natatorium.

Texas opened the meet by taking the win in the 200-yard medley relay, as senior Jessica Guro, sophomores Gretchen Jaques and Skylar Smith and junior Ellen Lobb finished in 1 minute, 42.84 seconds. Junior Alex Hooper led a one-two Texas finish in the 200 freestyle with a winning time of 1:49.75.

Lobb claimed the 50 freestyle in 22.99 and was followed by Jaques in 23.31. Smith and junior Sarah Denninghoff led a one-two Texas showing in the 200 individual medley with Smith getting the win in 2:03.98. Denninghoff finished in 2:04.82.

Freshman Meghan Houston led a one-two-three Texas finish in the one-meter diving event with 314.33 points. Senior Diana Wilcox placed second at 285.90, while freshman Kristina Hoffmann took third with 260.93 points. Junior Marylyn Toledo led a similar finish in the 100 butterfly with a win in 56.13. Sophomore Kaitlin Pawlowicz took second in 56.52, while Hooper placed third in 57.23.

Junior Samantha Tucker added to UT's win total by claiming the 100 freestyle in 51.44. Sophomore Kelsey LeNeave followed in second at 51.57. Junior Lily Moldenhauer led a one-two-three Longhorns finish in the 100 backstroke in 55.52. Lobb took second in 56.76, while Guro placed third in 56.82.

Denninghoff returned to win the 500 freestyle in 4:55.34, and Houston completed a sweep of the diving events by taking the three-meter event with 310.28 points. With Texas' team victory in hand, the Longhorns declined the points in the remaining two events and swam them as exhibitions. Smith captured the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.85, and UT closed out the meet by taking the 200 freestyle relay in 1:33.24.

No. 7 Texas (3-2) won 11 of 12 events and cruised to a 133-88 victory over Big 12 Conference foe TCU Friday evening at TCU's University Natatorium.

Texas kicked off the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, as seniors Austin Surhoff and Dax Hill, sophomore Tripp Cooper and junior Charlie Moore took the victory in 1 minute, 31.77 seconds. Sophomore Jake Ritter led a one-two Texas finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:41.30. Freshman Sam Lewis took second in 1:41.89.

Hill led the Longhorns in the 50 freestyle with a winning mark of 20.83 seconds. Surhoff followed with a victory in the 200 individual medley in 1:50.11. Surhoff is a former NCAA champion in the event.

Freshman Cory Bowersox led a one-two-three-four Texas finish in the one-meter diving event with 359.63 points. Junior William McCraney took second with 355.80 points. Sophomore Tripp Cooper added a win in the 100 butterfly in 50.26. Lewis held off his teammate Ritter in the 500 freestyle and came away with the win in 4:33.38.

Sophomore Will Chandler led another one-two-three-four Texas diving finish, as he claimed the three-meter event with 432.53 points. He out-distanced UT's Bowersox, the second-place finisher, by over 40 points.

Texas closed the meet with wins in the final two events, but with the meet outcome in hand, the Longhorns declined the points and completed the events as exhibitions. Hill clocked 57.44 to win the 100 breaststroke, and UT closed out the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:23.45.
