Texas Claims Plenty of Wins in Unscored Meet Against Arizona, SMU

AUSTIN, Texas, February 2. TEXAS Lady Longhorns collected 10 victories in its unscored meet against Arizona and SMU on Saturday at UT's Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. The Longhorns defeated Arizona and SMU in the meet's scored portion on Friday.

Redshirt junior diver Maren Taylor notched her third win in as many tries this weekend when she claimed the platform diving event with 287.55 points. Senior Shelby Cullinan took second with 248.45 points.

Senior Bethany Adams capped a productive weekend with a win in the 200 freestyle in 1 minute, 48.84 seconds. Junior Lily Moldenhauer produced a strong in-season time while claiming the 100 backstroke in 53.04. Senior Laura Sogar took the 200 butterfly in 2:05.65, and Adams notched her second win with a mark of 22.93 in the 50 freestyle.

Junior Samantha Tucker clocked 49.32 to win the 100 freestyle, and senior Jessica Guro won the 200 backstroke in 2:00.39. Sophomore Gretchen Jaques turned in a superb weekend of racing and captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:10.83. Moldenhauer led a one-two Texas finish in the 100 butterfly and was victorious in 54.04.

Sophomore Kelsey LeNeave captured the 200 IM in 2:03.85 and was followed by sophomore Victoria Cassidy in second at 2:06.05.

Freshman Sam Lewis started things off with a win in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 15 minutes, 11.55 seconds. Senior Cole Cragin finished off a strong weekend of swimming by claiming the 100 backstroke in 48.02. Sophomore Kip Darmody took on a sprint event and came away with a 50 freestyle victory in 20.30. Freshman Ben Anderson followed suit by claiming the 100 freestyle in 44.42.

Junior Keegan Severns clocked 2:03.95 to take the 200 breaststroke, and senior Austin Surhoff produced a 200 individual medley victory in 1:45.03. Senior Dax Hill turned in an impressive time of 1:46.67 for second place.

Redshirt sophomore Will Chandler paced the Texas divers by taking second in the platform event with 403.20 points. Sophomore Myles Herzog took fifth with 299.45 points.

Texas hosts the Big 12 Championships beginning Wednesday, Feb. 27 at the Texas Swimming Center.
