TCU vs. Incarnate Word

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, February 7. SOPHOMORE Kyle Callens set a TCU diving record from the one-meter springboard and junior Josh Bagby picked up a pair of wins Saturday, leading the TCU men's swimming and diving team past Incarnate Word by a score of 158-132. The Frogs depth was a factor against the Cardinals', as TCU placed two of the top-three times in 12 of the 16 events.

The men conclude the regular season with a 4-5 record, including a 1-4 clip against the Mountain West Conference.

"It was a big win for us," TCU head coach Richard Sybesma said. "It's always good to finish the year with a win to head into the conference championships with confidence."

From the air, TCU swept the diving events, as Callens led the way with his record-breaking performance, turning in the third-best performance in Mountain West Conference history from the one-meter springboard with a score of 341.62. The Deer Park, Texas native surpassed former Frog Kelly McCain's mark of 335.10 from 2006 and earned his third one-meter win of the season. Senior diver R.J. Hesselberg snatched his fifth three-meter win of the year with a scorecard of 355.95, the second-best three-meter tally in TCU history.

Bagby claimed his fifth 50-free victory of the year with a time of 21.58, while also garnering his sixth 100-free win by pacing the field at 47.67. The Houston, Texas native finishes the regular season as TCU's team leader in wins with 13, while also anchoring both Horned Frog relay wins Saturday.

Another big contributor to TCU's win Saturday was freshman Friedrich Grott. The newcomer claimed the 200-fly with the Frogs' time of the year at 1:53.38. The Potsdam, Germany native also earned runner-up finishes with his season-best time in the 200-IM (1:56.34) and and 100-fly (50.92).

Bagby and Grott teamed up with freshman Laszlo Gyurko and junior Ben Biefnes for the Frogs' 200-medley relay win, leading the way to the finish at 1:34.38. In the 200-free relay, Gyurko, Ben Iannacone, Josh Schifferer and Bagby were the winning combination in the final event of the afternoon, hitting the wall at 1:25.62 for the win.

The men's squad will now prepare for the MWC Championships, beginning on Feb. 25.
