Sr. Cseh was en route to a possible world-leading time @ 150 (1:25.23) but the the proverbial piano came crashing down him that final 50 (29.67 vs. winner’s 28.61) and that was that,

Of course young(18) Master Kenderisii ain’t no slouch either.

He won the gold and set world junior record @ last year’s Youth Olympics in Nanjing (1:55.95).

If he doesn’t get stage-fright @ Kazan he could damage a lot of egos.

29.67 is a really good last split, Phelps only had a 29.83 at the London Olympics. 28.61 on the other hand is incredibly fast, nobody had a last split under 29 seconds at either of the last two Olympics or at any of the last three World Championships.

Assuming Kenderesi is now a world championship qualifier for Hungary, we could see the Hungarians winning the men’s and women’s 200 fly! There’s a lot of competition surrounding Kenderesi (men’s 200 fly) and Katinka Hosszu (women’s 200 fly), but it’s possible.

Well, Kenderesi’s place is safe now for the Words, but Hosszú might not swim the 200 fly, it depends greatly on tomorrow’s finals at the Nationals. If Jakabos can post a low 2:07 she can take the second spot from her (Szilágyi is a fix with her 2:06.59 from last year’s Youth Olympics). But either way, I don’t see too much chance for a gold on the women’s side.

I am a big fan of Ms Hosszú, but I doubt she could beat Mireia Belmonte on the LC 200 fly. And there are other serious competitors from Australia or not to mention Natsumi Hoshi.
