Tamalpais Aquatic Masters Set FINA Masters World Records

DAVIS, California, October 14. THE Tamalpais Aquatic Masters (TAM) put together some short course meter relay FINA Masters world record swims at the Sacramento Masters Annual Pentathlon held recently.

The 240-plus mixed medley relay of Richard Burns, Ken Frost, Laura Val and Barbara Wheeler broke the relay world record with a time of 2:10.89. The old record of 2:14.24 was also held by TAM. The prior weekend the same team shattered the 240-plus mixed 800 free relay record in 9:34.91. The old record was 9:54.18.

New FINA rules will now recognize 400m and 800m relays as world records. Val, swimming in her fourth year in the 55-59 age group, also set individual FINA Masters world records in the 400 freestyle (4:42.97) and the 100 IM (1:12.90).

Special thanks to Richard Burns for contributing this report.
