SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Weekly Channel Recap: May 12, 2007
PHOENIX, Arizona, May 12. ANOTHER week down, another busy time on SwimmingWorldMagazine.com. Over the past week, both the Brazilians and the Swiss went at it in their respective championships. Thiago Pereira tore the house down in Brazil, while Flori Lang knocked down the 50 back national record in the Swiss meet.
In other items of interest, Aaron Peirsol spoke to SwimmingWorld.TV about Oceana, the company he now endorses that is trying to protect the world's oceans. Additionally, Steven V. Selthoffer looked at the attempts by Orjan Madsen to clean up the image of the German swim team after decades of suspicion harkening back to the 70s when the East Germans systematically doped their team.
Meanwhile, Laure Manaudou announced that she was leaving her coach Philippe Lucas in France to move to Italy as she desires to build her relationship with Italian swimmer Luca Marin.
Our Promising Seniors-To-Be series continued with six more entries as we profiled the next crop of recruits that will be available to sign on the dotted line with colleges throughout the country next season.
USMS, just a week out from its short course national championships to be held in Federal Way, Wash., announced the hiring of Todd Smith as its executive director. Smith comes to USMS after serving in a similar capacity at USA Diving.
Speaking of diving, the sport held the Canada Cup early in the week and continued with the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix this weekend. As usual, the Chinese dominated most of the gold-medal spots.
