SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Weekly Channel Recap: January 13, 2007
PHOENIX, Arizona, January 13. THIS past week, the sport of swimming returned swift and strong after a brief holiday respite on SwimmingWorldMagazine.com. Our World Channel finished with the most stories with information on Junior Pan Pacs, ISHOF, Olympic Games facility and bid data tidbits as well as news that Franzi welcomed a potential new swimmer to the world.
The biggest news of the week, however, belonged to Shirley Babashoff as publisher Brent Rutemiller spoke to her about the recent news that the German Olympic Committee financially compensated 167 for systematic doping from 1973-1989, thus admitting once and for all that East Germany's performance in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games will forever be sullied.
In other action, Rewind started a Splashback series that will look back at each month's historic Swimming World Magazine editions in 10-year increments in the following order, 40-20-30-10. This past week, we looked at the January 1967 edition of the magazine.
Additionally, the college season really ramped up its dual-meet action with the return of the Meet of the Week program as we witnessed the four-time defending NCAA Division I champion Auburn men lose for the first time in 44 dual meets.
