SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Weekly Channel Recap: February 24, 2007
PHOENIX, Arizona, February 24. EASILY the biggest news of the week came out of Columbia, Mo., as Michael Phelps set the first world record of the year by lowering his 200 LCM fly standard .09 seconds to 1:53.71. The other big news, which so happened to be about the best thing that could have happened to Speedo, is that Phelps wore the new FS-PRO suit doing it.
With just more than a month before Worlds, Speedo's launch of the FS-PRO, coupled with Phelps breaking a global standard untapered and with a goatee in the suit, helped create a frenzy over the product. With such big news happening in the swimming community, Swimming World Magazine publisher/CEO Brent Rutemiller sat down with Speedo Vice President Stu Isaac for a Swimming World Radio piece on the new suit and Phelps' record.
In other news, the NCAA Conference Championship season continued full force, which our readers can keep up to date by following the up-to-the-minute coverage through the three Results and Recaps news articles on the site.
We also posted a pair of commentary pieces as managing editor Jason Marsteller explained the selection process of the zone diving meets for NCAA Division I, and senior writer John Lohn checked in with his thoughts of last weekend's impressive swims.
Meanwhile, New Jersey Masters swimmer Laura Smith took a turn in the "A Day in the Life" series as our second Masters swimmer to grace the program.
