In its tenth decade, the Far Western Championships saw Olympic and World Champions, including Summer Sanders, Michael Phelps, Janet Evans, Pablo Morales, Natalie Coughlin and Missy Franklin compete in it as age group swimmers.

This year, over 1700 age group swimmers will be competing in the event. Teams from all across the American Southwest and Pacific Coast (including teams from Mexico) have sent elite age group swimmers to race in the championship meet.
