Swimming World Six Star Kasey Carlson Makes College Pledge

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 5. SHORTLY after picking up Swimming World five star Jack Wagner for the men's class, Dave Salo had another welcome phone call from a recruit as Swimming World six star Kasey Carlson committed to the University of Southern California as her future home today.

Carlson, who swims for Terrapins, is one of the blue chip recruits in the Class of 2010. A member of the 2009 World Championships team, where she took bronze in the 100-meter breaststroke, Carlson will definitely be in position to score points for the Trojans at the 2011 NCAA Division I Championships. Last year, Carlson would have A finaled in the 100-yard breast (58.75) and B finaled in the 200-yard breast (2:09.66). She also has B cuts in the 50-yard free (22.56), 100-yard free (49.45) and 200-yard free (1:47.57).

As evidenced by her World Championships trip, Carlson is one of the top long course swimmers in the country. Her top meter times are 50 free (25.91), 100 free (56.97), 100 breast (1:05.75) and 200 breast (2:31.40).

Carlson certainly will have some strong breaststrokers around as world record holders Rebecca Soni and Jessica Hardy both train with the Trojan Swim Club.

"It was a difficult decision, and it came down to three great schools," Carlson told Swimming World. "In the end, I felt that USC was the best fit for me. Dave Salo is building a great team and I'm excited to become a part of it. I liked the combination of both academics and athletics in a smaller school environment, along with both the men's and women's teams training together. I look forward to my future as a Trojan."
