Swimming World Selects College Swimmers of the Week

PHOENIX, Arizona, November 25. JUNIOR Matt Golebiewski of West Chester and freshman Molly Evans of Carnegie Mellon have been named as Swimming World Magazine’s College Swimmers of the Week.

The award is an extension of the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week (NCSW) honors given out by Collegeswimming.com across three divisions of NCAA competition.

Whitney Sprague (North Carolina) and Jason Dunford (Stanford) won the Division I NCSW awards, while Amanda Terray (Lock Haven) and Golebiewski took home the Division II honors. Evans, along with Tim Whitbeck (Grove City), garnered the Division III accolades.

Golebiewski led West Chester to second-place at a three-day Terrapin Cup Invite hosted by Maryland. The team wound up qualifying six swimmers and one relay to NCAAs this year. Golebiewski checked in with four automatic qualifying times as part of relays in the 200 free (1:22.37), 400 free (3:02.82), 800 free (6:45.79) and 400 medley (3:23.54). He also won the 500 free (4:32.18) and 200 free (1:39.76) events.

Evans gave Carnegie Mellon three wins during a quad meet with Franklin & Marshall (153-109), Rochester (178-84) and Washington & Lee (167-95). Evans won three events with school-record and B-cut wins in the 100 back (58.55) and 200 IM (2:11.22), while also touching first in the 200 back (2:06.40).
