Swimming World Magazine is running a record progression of all the American and World Records broken this year in the December issue. Although 2013 was considered by most to be an “off” year after the 2012 London Olympics, a considerable number of records were taken down.

Also in December, Swimming World Magazine crowns the top Male and Female Swimmers of the Year from each world region (North and South America, Europe, Africa and Pacific Rim) and 2013’s overall Male and Female World Swimmers of the Year.

In 2012, Swimming World Magazine’s World Swimmer of the Year honors went to Michael Phelps and Missy Franklin. This year, things will be different, especially considering Phelps retired from swimming immediately following the 2012 London Olympic Games.
