Swimming World Magazine Wins Accolades for Redesign of Publication

Phoenix, Ariz., April 29. SWIMMING enthusiasts, subscribers and advertisers from around the globe continue to praise the relaunch of one of swimming’s oldest and most respected independent publications –Swimming World Magazine.

Jackie Brown, a former USA Swimming athlete who swam for the Glendale Gauchos of Arizona, was hired by Sports Publications International, corporate parent to Swimming World Magazine and SwimInfo.com, in the Fall of 2004. “She deserves all of the credit,” said Dick Deal, long time Publisher for Sports Publications International (SPI).

Jackie began in November with the daunting task of combining all three of SPI’s publications (Swimming World, SWIM, and Swimming Technique) into one unique publication. “We worked with Jackie to preserve SWIM and Swimming Technique magazines in ways that allow those titles to remain viable. Jackie’s layout allowed for these publications to appear independent while still being combined into one flowing publication. She accomplished a very difficult task. As a result, the magazines can still be downloaded independently as electronic publications,” added Brent Rutemiller, CEO for SPI.

“Jackie’s ability to take rich content and make it more appealing to the reader is her strongest asset,” commented Phil Whitten, former Editor-in-Chief and current Chief Media Officer for SPI.

Jackie (Sue – maiden name) Brown, swam for the Glendale Gauchos of Arizona and competed on a national level in both Junior and Senior Championships. She attended the University of Nebraska on a swimming scholarship, but had a career-ending shoulder injury that allowed her to devote more time to her creative skills. She pursued degrees in fine arts and communications, graduating from San Diego State with a degree in communications with an emphasis in advertising. Self-taught in the use of Photoshop and Illustrator software, Jackie worked for Allegra Print & Imaging and Crowne Press printing studios early in her career where she learned pre-press skills. She now owns her own studio called Jax Design. This combination of swimming experience and professional skills made her a perfect fit for Sports Publications International.

“I think Swimming World is a fantastic magazine. I am so excited to be a part of it. With my personal history in swimming, I feel like I fit right in. I am very happy,” concluded Jackie Brown.

Look for more substantive changes in the near future as Sports Publications International repositions itself in the marketplace.
