Swimming Technique Section Presents How To Balance Anaerobic and Aerobic Training

PHOENIX, Arizona, April 4. DR. Daniel Carl's article Balancing Aerobic with Anaerobic Swim Training looks at the shift in coaching philosophy with respect to more evenly managing anaerobic and aerobic training regimens for swimmers. A general overview of the approach of emphasizing aerobic over anaerobic is presented in the April issue of Swimming World. Specific suggestions are offered in order to take the proper steps to avoid the temptation to overtrain.

As with any training regimen, coaches must evaluate the varying age groups and the developmental status of their athletes. In the final part of this article, the author outlines the advantages of coaches making a concentrated effort to give greater balance to these two training systems.

Regular Swimming World contributor Michael Stott also interviews a number of highly successful scholastic coaches on the topic of how to win a high school state meet. High school coaches won't want to miss this discussion of practical ideas on such an important subject.
