Swim Poll of the Week: Which World Record Would Have Been in Most Danger During Olympic Trials?
This is the Swim Poll of the Week for Wednesday July 1, 2020, sponsored by Strechcordz Swim Training Products. In our last poll, we wanted to know: Which world record would have been in the most danger to fall had the US Olympic Trials happened in 2020?
The US Olympic Trials were set to take place June 21 – 28, 2020, but have been moved back a year to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The meet was expected to be a huge spectacle as the last official Olympic Trials before the Olympic Games.
To celebrate what would have been Trials week, we at Swimming World wrote about what possibly could have happened had Trials been going on.
Team USA swimmers were on a roll at the start of 2020, as some of the sport’s biggest names – Caeleb Dressel, Katie Ledecky, Regan Smith & Lilly King were looking to be in really good shape ahead of this summer, putting up the top times in the world for the year in their respective events. All four of those swimmers hold world records, but could they have gone those times at Trials had they been held this week in a normal year?
Obviously, that is an unanswerable question and it is impossible to predict what could have happened had there been no virus going on.
But the question remains: Which world record would have been in the most danger to fall had the US Olympic Trials happened in 2020?
We asked for the swim poll and you answered with…
