Swedish Grand Prix Final, Stockholm: First Final Recap, Results

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, May 3. THE first day of finals at the Swedish Grand Prix Final held in Stockholm is in the books.

Stefan Nystrand, who owns the national record with a smoking 47.91 from August, cruised with a victory in the men's 100 free (49.54). Nathalie Lindborg then won the women's 200 free in the next event with a time of 2:04.66.

In the men's 50 breast, Isak Ladeborn picked up the victory in a time of 29.88. Meanwhile, Joline Hostman surfaced with the women's 100 breast title in 1:08.59.

Christopher Wallin was next as he grabbed the men's 400 IM title in 4:34.02, while national-record holder Sarah Sjostrom snatched the women's 100 fly win in 59.34, off her standard time of 58.38.

In the men's 100 back, Christoffer Vikstrom touched first in 58.43, while Lovisa Ericsson held off Caroline Palm, 30.82 to 30.87, in the women's 50 back.

National-record holder Simon Sjodin hit the wall in 2:02.23 as he crushed the field in the men's 200 fly. However, he finished well off his best time of 1:58.39. Ida Sandin then touched out Stina Gardell, 2:19.39 to 2:19.59, in the women's 200 IM.

In a sparse four-man field, Linus Junefelt won the men's 400 free in 4:06.71.

Anna-Karin Kammerling grabbed the women's 50 free time over Sarah Sjostrom, 25.35 to 25.87. Anton Lagerqvist won the men's 200 breast in convincing fashion with a time of 2:21.53.

Joanna Olsson took the women's 800 free in 9:21.21, while Lars Frolander pocketed the men's 50 fly in 24.11.

National-record holder Carin Moller closed the day with a time of 2:19.20 in the women's 200 back.
