VIDEO: Sun Yang Earns Three Titles In First Four Days Of 2018 Chinese Championships

The 2018 Chinese Championships and Asian Games Selection meet are underway in Shanxi, China this week, with both new and familiar names emerging to find themselves on the top of the podium.

On the opening day of the meet two young distance swimmers battled it out and ended up clearing 16 minutes. 15 year-old Wang Jianjiahe took the mile in 15:53.01 ahead of 16 year-old Li Bingjie’s 15:58.29. On the other end of the spectrum, Olympic gold medalist and Chinese national team veteran Sun Yang earned three individual titles through the first four days of the meet, winning the 200 (1:46.07), 400 (3:44.29), and 800 (7:50.47) freestyles.

Other notable swimmers include Xu Jiayu, the 2017 World Champion in the 100 backstroke, who won the men’s 100 back in 52.72 and Qin Haiyang, the world junior record holder in the 200 breast. Qin won that event in 2:09.40 before placing second in the 100 on the fourth day of the meet. Li Zhuhao, the national record holder in the 100 butterfly, won that event here in 51.77.
