Summer Juniors Qualifier Cael McLaren Hands Davidson Verbal Commitment

NEW COMMIT: Summer Juniors qualifier Cael McLaren of Sugar Grove, Ill. has announced his verbal commitment to Davidson and will suit up for the Wildcats in the fall of 2020.

Primarily a breaststroker and IMer, McLaren swims year-round with Academy Bullets Swim Club and most recently recorded five best times at NCSAs this past summer where he finished 17th in the 100m breast. Last winter, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed seventh in the 100 breast at Illinois Seniors before going on to final in that event at NCSAs. Also competing for West Aurora High School, McLaren took eighth in the 100 breast at the Illinois State Championships during his junior season.

He told Swimming World:

“With humility and great excitement, I am honored to announce my commitment to continue the admissions process at Davidson College. I can’t thank my family, teammates, and coaches enough for guiding me to this point. With that being said, I would like to thank Coach Young and Coach Holman for giving me this opportunity. I am excited to see what Davidson will offer in this process and the next 4 years. Go Wildcats! #catsarewild“

His best times include:

100 breast – 56.91
200 breast – 2:06.93
200 IM – 1:55.30

McLaren will add valuable breaststroke depth to Davidson’s lineup when he arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024. He’s just shy of scoring range at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, but has made consistent improvements each year. Over the past two seasons, he has dropped five seconds in the 100 breast and seven in the 200 breast.
