Streamlined News: Weekend Racing; Phelps in New Orleans; Lochte Films Commercial

PHOENIX, Arizona, February 1. SINCE it's Friday, that means we have college dual meets coming up this weekend, and there are a few to keep your eye on today and tomorrow. The University of Tennessee, one week after beating Georgia, is headed to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators later today. This will be the final dual meet for both teams before the SEC championships, so expect a big push from the Volunteers and Gators before they begin resting for conference.

On the West Coast, Stanford will be hosting the UCLA women's team today and the USC women tomorrow. The Trojans held on to their spot at the top of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America's rankings this week despite not having a meet in the past two weeks. The Golden Bears of California will also race against UCLA and USC this weekend, but in the opposite order, with USC in Berkeley today and UCLA swimming against Cal on Saturday.

The University of Texas will host the men's and women's teams from Southern Methodist University and the University of Arizona this weekend. Today, the three teams will race in a scored competition today and then a non-scored meet tomorrow. This will be the final dual meet of the season for Texas and SMU before their conference meets, and will feature some top-flight racing between Texas and Arizona, two teams that will likely be neck-and-neck in scoring at the NCAA championships.

We'll let you know how these meets shake out this weekend on swimmingworld.com.

Also this weekend is the Super Bowl in New Orleans between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers. Being a Baltimore native, it's quite obvious that Michael Phelps will be rooting for the Ravens and good friend Ray Lewis to win the big game, and the Greatest Olympian of All Time is in New Orleans getting ready for the game.

And Ryan Lochte is still dividing time between training and sponsorship obligations, and yesterday he was in Tennessee to film a television commercial for car maker Nissan. According to a report from Nashville station Fox 17, the ad will feature Lochte doing dryland exercises while giving advice to a Nissan employee. Lochte took the time after the shoot to sign autographs, and had his five London Olympic medals on hand. No word on when Lochte's commercial will air, so keep your eyes peeled.
