Streamlined News: Kitajima Engaged; Franklin at Football Festivities

PHOENIX, Arizona, January 2. HAPPY New Year to everyone around the world and welcome to the first Streamlined News of the year. We have some good news to report for you to start off the show. Japan's Kosuke Kitajima proposed to his girlfriend of two years, pop singer Chisa, over the weekend. Chisa posted the news about the engagement on the website for the band she fronts, called Girl Next Door. No wedding date has been scheduled, nor has there been a public announcement from Kitajima about his competition plans going forward. Kitajima was unsuccessful in his bid to win either the 100 or 200 breaststrokes in London, which would have put him in rare company.

Last weekend Missy Franklin came to Phoenix to participate as grand marshall of the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Parade, making her the fourth Olympic swimmer to accept the honor. After a couple of days back home, Franklin returned to Arizona yesterday to take part in the pre-game events for tomorrow's Fiesta Bowl football game, in which she will, among other things, participate in the coin toss on the field before the game between Oregon and Kansas State.
