PHOENIX, Arizona, January 18. THE University of Maryland's swim team is still on the chopping block at the end of this season, but swimmers and supporters are still fighting to keep the team alive. After raising nearly $1 million in pledges so far, a group of parents, alumni and coaches met with Maryland Athletic Director Kevin Anderson yesterday to present a business plan to save the men's and women's teams that includes finding donors to bring in about $3 million and a plan that would raise about $250,000 in annual revenues. Whether that is enough to save the team is unknown, but the support continues to come in from all over the country. The team's Facebook page has almost 14,000 members showing their solidarity.

In more college news, John Trembley has decided to not appeal his termination as head coach of the men's swim team at the University of Tennessee. Trembley was fired two weeks ago for gross misconduct, though the specifics of what constituted gross misconduct has not been made public. The investigation into Trembley's wrongdoings is still ongoing.
