Streamlined News, Dec. 30, 2011

PHOENIX, Arizona, December 30. TODAY, USA Swimming announced that Janet Evans will be competing at the Austin Grand Prix in two weeks as part of her comeback. Evans still has not qualified for the Olympic Trials, and she will be swimming the 400 and 800 freestyles in a likely attempt to do that. Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte will also be in Austin, as will Missy Franklin and Kate Ziegler.

Yesterday we told you about some cold water swims that took place last Monday across the United Kingdom. This weekend, many people around the world – at least in the northern hemisphere where it's colder – will take part in another annual tradition: the Polar Bear swim. Devoted swimmers will take a dip in frigid waters on New Year's Day as a way to ring in 2012. We've seen reports of such events as far north as Alaska and Siberia each year, with many people dodging blocks of ice. Of course, you don't have to go to an icy lake or frozen river to take part. There's probably a local group in or near your hometown that sponsors such an event.

As you can see we at Swimming World are ready to ring in the new year. We want to thank you for watching all of our programs on Swimming World.TV in 2011, and we look forward to bringing you much more content, not only on swimmingworld.tv, but on swimmingworld.com and in Swimming World Magazine. Have a great New Year's weekend, and we'll see you back here on Tuesday.
