Streamlined News: Alshammar’s Injury; Lochte’s Romance?

PHOENIX, Arizona, July 26. JUST a couple of days before the start of the London Olympics, Swedish sprinter Therese Alshammar has been forced to withdraw from the 400 free relay as she is suffering from a pinched nerve in her neck and shoulder. Alshammar is looking to swim in her fifth Olympics, and the team doctor is saying she could recover in time to swim the 100 free on Wednesday and the 50 free next Friday.

Ryan Lochte had to shoot down today's rumors that he's involved in a relationship with Australian swimmer Blair Evans. The two were seen greeting each other in the pool yesterday in London, and some in the pool started the rumor mill going when the two touched hands briefly.

“I know Blair, I've known her for a while,” Lochte said. “She's a good friend of mine and I haven't seen her in a year, so I was excited to see her. So those pictures that you guys got, it may have come off like that's my romance for the Olympics but it's not like that. It's a great friend that I'm just excited to see.”

Many more swimmers met with the media today in London, including Michael Phelps. You can read quotes from their press conferences on swimmingworld.com.
