Stony Brook Splits With Boston College

STONY BROOK, New York, December 2. THE Stony Brook University men's swimming and diving team placed first and second in the last event, the 200-yard freestyle relay, clinching a victory over Boston University in dramatic fashion, 152-139 on Saturday afternoon at the University Pool. The men's squad is now 4-2 while B.U. falls to 0-4. The Stony Brook women fell to Boston University, 172-111. The women's squad is 2-4 on the year while Boston University improves to 3-1.

With the score tied at 137-137 after 15 events, Stony Brook's "A" and "B" touched first and second, respectively, ahead of Boston University's "A" relay. The first and second place touches earned the team 11 and 4 points, resepctively. The Seawolves' "A" relay made up of Omer Ozcan, Alex Kissel, Dan Piastuck and Raphy Labour came in at 1:27.15 and the "B" relay came in at 1:28.49. The Terriers' "A" relay touched the wall at 1:29.19.

Labour won two events on the day, the 100 and 200-yard backstroke, and Ozcan won the 50-yard freestyle. Jon Sigurosson and Alexei Smirnov each placed first in events against the Terriers.

For the women, Hailey Lewandowski continued her strong senior season, winning the one meter dive and placed second in the three meter dive. Freshman Rebecca Sayles touched first in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.29, just 16 tenths of a second better than her teammate, Courtney Teague who touched second in 55.45.
