Stellar Aussie Squad Set for Japan Meet

SYDNEY, Australia, July 5. THE team that will represent Australia at next month's International Swim Meet in Japan will include many of the athletes expected to compete for the country at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The competition, slated for Aug. 21-24, is expected to feature more than 20 countries and a number of the world's top guns.

The Aussie squad will be led by Grant Hackett, Leisel Jones and Jessicah Schipper, all world-record holders. Meanwhile, Hackett and Jones are two-time Olympians and account for two of 10 spots on the team that are occupied by individuals who took part in the 2004 Games in Athens. Hackett's performances will provide a gauge as to his condition following a sub-par World Championships. Hackett, however, was solid in the Mare Nostrum Series.
