Staples High Swim Coach Jeffrey Schare Arrested for Sexual Assault

FAIRFIELD, Connecticut, December 18. JEFFREY Schare, the Staples High School boys swimming and diving head coach, has been arrested on sexual assault charges in Connecticut according to the CT Post.

According to the report, Schare “faces multiple sex charges” after “confessing to sexually assaulting two young girls for more than three years.” The article further reports that Schare groomed the two girls early on before beginning his sexual advances. The two girls in the case on now 12 and 8.

Schare was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of risk of injury to a minor and one count each of third-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and attempted third-degree sexual assault. He has since been released on $150,000 bond.

The situation first came to light as the older girl complained to her school counselor.

USA Swimming confirmed today that Schare is not currently a member, and was last a member in 2006.
