Stanford Secures Verbal From Mumbai’s Neel Roy

NEW COMMIT: Mumbai, India native Neel Roy has announced his verbal commitment to swim for Stanford and will make his way to The Farm as a member of the class of 2023.

Roy competes for Dolphin Aquatics and was a three-time finalist at the Singapore National Age Group Championships in March and swam lifetime bests in all his events. At the Glenmark Junior National Aquatic Championships in June, he earned three gold medals and recorded two runner-up finishes.

As a member of the National Team, Roy most recently represented India at the Asian Games where he finished 14th in the 200m IM (2:08.37). At the Glenmark Senior National meet last fall, he earned a silver and bronze in the 400m IM and 200m IM, respectively.

He told Swimming World:

“I am delighted to announce my commitment to swim and study at Stanford University for the Class of 2023! I’m looking forward to being on the Farm next year and working with Coach Knapp and Coach Kostoff. I’m excited to be joining such a strong program and team! #FearTheTree”
In LCM, his best times include:
  • 50 free – 23.82
  • 100 free – 52.22
  • 200 free – 1:54.48
  • 200 IM – 2:07.52
  • 100 back – 58.70

In SCY, those times convert to:

  • 50 free – 20.72
  • 100 free – 45.58
  • 200 free – 1:40.25
  • 200 IM – 1:50.55
  • 100 back – 50.81

Roy will be valuable in a number of different events when he arrives at Stanford for the 2019-20 season. In the sprint events, he’ll have one season to train with Grant Shoults and James Murphy. He’ll also join a talented IM group that includes Brennan Pastorek and Alex Liang. The Cardinals finished second at the 2018 PAC-12 Championships.
