St. Lawrence vs. Nazareth

CANTON, New York, October 30. JUNIOR Rachael Phipps won the 100-yard freestyle and swam on two winning relays Saturday and sophomore Carissa Risucci broke a 28-year-old pool record as Nazareth improved to 2-0 in women's swimming and diving with a 141-92 victory over St. Lawrence. The Golden Flyers lost in the men's meet, 143-75.

Nazareth went 1-2 in the 100 free with Phipps posting a time of :54.73, about two seconds ahead of teammate Emily Sauter (:56.94). Phipps also swam on the 200-yard medley relay that also featured Maura Reissig, Risucci and Jaclyn Conklin. They were timed in 1:53.97. Phipps, Sauter and Conklin also competed in the 200 free relay along with sophomore McKenna Murphy. That foursome was clocked in 1:44.08.

Risucci finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:31.03, breaking the pool mark of 2:31.18 held by Sara Wortman of Syracuse since 1982.

Nazareth also had wins from freshman Amanda Rogers in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:43.46); Murphy in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.60); Sauter in the 50-yard freestyle (:25.87); Reissig in the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.74) and Conklin in the 500-yard freestyyle (5:32.44).

In the men's meet, Nazareth lost several close races to fall to 0-2 on the season. The foursome of Jacob Kline, Mike Bidwell, Justin Sawran and Dan Walton was touched out in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:44.95.

In addition, Kline finished second by by a fraction of a second in the 200 freestyle and was runner-up in the 200 butterfly; Jeremy Hudak was second in the 50 freestyle; Swaran was touched out by .21 of a second in the 200 IM. Jeremy Wood earned points for Nazareth with a first-place finish in 1-meter diving (151.35).
