Sprint Freestyler Thatcher Smith Lends Raiders First Verbal Commitment for Colgate University
NEW COMMIT: Sprint freestyler Thatcher Smith of Deerfield, Mass. has handed Colgate University their first verbal commitment for the fall of 2020.
Smith does his club swimming with Montclair YMCA and most recently competed in the 100 free at both YMCA LCM Nationals this past summer and YMCA SCY Nationals in April. At the New Jersey YMCA State Championships in March, he placed 20th in the 200 free. Also competing for Deerfield Academy, Smith recorded a pair of best times and finished 11th in the 100 free at the New England Prep Athletic Conference DI Championships during his sophomore season.
He told Swimming World:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim Division 1 at Colgate University. Thank you to all of my friends and family who have supported me along the way. GO RAIDERS!!!”
His best times include:
- 50 free – 22.14
- 100 free – 48.15
- 200 free – 1:45.43
Smith has consistently dropped time each season and will be a valuable asset to Colgate both individually and on relays. When he suits up for the Raiders as a member of the class of 2024, he’ll add his talents to a sprint group led by Segundo Rienhardt, Jack Van Meter and Cole Bligh.
