Spanish Short Course Championships: Melanie Costa Schmid Sets Spanish Record
CASTELLON, Spain, November 27. THE second day of swimming at the Spanish Short Course Championships produced a national record in the women's 400 free.
Melanie Costa Schmid smashed the national record in the women's 400 free. She hit the wall in 4:01.35 to wipe out the 4:02.74 set by Erika Villaecija Garcia back in 2007.
Marco Rivera Miranda won the men's 1500 free in 14:54.90, while Angela San Juan Cisneros set a meet record in the women's 50 fly with a 26.55. She cleared her previous mark of 26.95 set during prelims and in 2004. She just missed her national mark of 26.45 set in April. Javier Noriega Sanz touched first in the men's 50 fly with a 23.50.
Marina Garcia Urzainqui captured the women's 200 breast in 2:23.11, while Melquiades Alvarez Caraballo clinched a meet record with a 2:05.35 in the men's 200 breast. Matias Aguilera cleared the meet record in the men's 100 free with a 47.28. Mireia Belmonte Garcia crushed the women's 200 IM meet record with a 2:06.75, while Alan Cabello Forns clocked a meet record time of 1:54.54 in the men's 200 IM.
