Southeast Asian Games Going After Big Fish; Targeting $50 Million for 2015 Event

SINGAPORE, October 4. THE Southeast Asian Games (SEA) organizers have announced a big time fundraising goal for the 2015 SEA Games will be vying for $50 million in sponsorship dollars. Organizers have two years to accomplish the goal.

The event is one of the more prestigious competitions in the regions, and organizers are definitely looking to support the athletes involved in the Games and honor Singapore’s 50th anniversary year.

“We are pleased by the interest we are seeing in our preliminary discussions with potential sponsors across a wide range of industries from MNCs to SME,” SEA Games Sponsorship and Marketing Committee Chair Richard Seow said. “Having gotten feedback from a good cross section of corporate leaders, many have shared their excitement for the SEA Games being hosted by Singapore again.

Leaders also plan to make the competition the most digital event in Singapore’s history. Organizers are planning on creating viral content up to and throughout the multi-sport event in two years. SEA will also be going mobile with a strong content-based app currently in development.

“Digital provides a powerful and cost effective platform that will extend sponsors’ reach beyond traditional channels,” Head of Sport, Google Asia Pacific, John Vamvakitis said. “How far we can go using digital is limited only by our imagination. With the SEA region boasting one of the fastest growing digital adopters, digital will play a crucial role in engaging consumers during the games. Digital will also enable participants to enjoy the games in more ways than one for example through the use of second screens, mobile applications as well as social media.”

The 28th SEA Games will be held in Singapore June 5-16, 2015.
