South Florida Aquatics Leads at Plantation Speedo Sectionals

Day three of the Speedo Sectionals Championship Series were today in Plantation, Fla. Heading into the final day of competition, South Florida Aquatics leads the combined team scores with 895 points, followed by Azura Florida (862), Gator Swim Club (837.5), East Coast Aquatic Club (628) and Bolles (591.5).

Fourteen-year-old Claire Timson of Falfins Swimming powered her way to a win in the women’s 100 back to begin day three finals, stopping the clock in 1:04.52. Bolles’ Mary Kelly finished second in 1:05.21. and Daytona Beach’s Micayla Cronk was third in 1:05.27.

Twelve-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte won his third event of the meet, taking first in the men’s 100 back with a time of 56.38. Corey Main, who is swimming unattached, was second in 56.66 and Gator Swim Club’s Mason Wilby finished third in 58.35.

After winning the women’s 100 breast last night, Mercedes Toledo was again victorious in the 50 breast after touching the wall in 32.96. Second place went to East Coast Aquatics’ Chade Nersicio (33.99) and third went to Peddie’s Alexandra McDaid (34.01).

The men’s 50 breast victory went to Pipeline’s Jared Pike who got his hands to the wall in 29.23. Jack Szaranek (29.90) and Coral Springs’ Harvey Beckwith (30.88) finished second and third, respectively.

Not too long after finishing second in the women’s 100 breast, Nersicio found herself on top of the podium in the 50 fly after posting a final time of 27.55. Makos Aquatics’ Alena Kraus finished second in 28.24. and Planet Swims’s Kathryn Saurborn was a close third in 28.25.

Andrii Govorov sprinted to first in the men’s 50 fly with a quick 23.47. He was followed by Performance Aquatics’ Runar Borgen (25.22) in second and Azura Florida’s Edson Lima (25.69) in third.

Future Cal Bear Isabel Ivey of Gator Swim Club cruised to first in the women’s 200 IM, winning gold with a time of 2:16.77. South Florida’s Kathleen Golding grabbed the silver in 2:18.73 and Swim Florida’s Olivia McMurray took bronze in 2:20.75.

After winning the 400 IM last night, Florida commit Miguel Cancel also earned the victory in the men’s 200 IM with a final time of 2:01.12. Pine Crest’s Patrick Groters was second in 2:10.20 and Treasure Coast’s William McCloud swam to third in 2:10.95.

Pipeline’s Chloe Grimme dropped four-tenths from her entry time to win the women’s 50 free in 26.20. Cronk followed her in 26.47 for second and Ivey was third in 26.51.

Brazilian Olympian Bruno Fratus swam a time of 22.27 to get his hand to the wall first in the men’s 50 free. Govorov was second in 22.43 and Azura Florida’s Luis Flores took third in 23.41.

AquaKids Sharks’ Mary Smutny, who will swim for Texas this fall, dropped nearly ten seconds from her prelims time to win the women’s 400 free in 4:18.37. McMurray finished second in 4:19.41 and third went to Georgia Marris in 4:19.63.

Gator Swim Club’s Mitch D’Arrigo won a close men’s 400 free battle in 3:59.18, just out-touching Lochte’s 3:59.21. Saint Edwards’ Coleman Kramer finished third in 4:02.17.

Prelims for the final day of competition will begin tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. EST.

Haven’t they changed the name from “Plantation” yet? I mean, the slaves were freed in the 1860s. ?

Ahh, political correctness. Look up the definition for plantation. Doesn’t always refer to slavery. If you go to Hawaii you will see a few sugar plantations
