South Dakota State vs. North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, North Dakota, October 16. THE University of North Dakota captured 14 of the possible 16 event titles to secure a 194.5-97.5 victory over South Dakota State in Saturday's home opener at the Hyslop Pool.

Leading the way for UND were sophomores Veronica Medon (Huntsville, Ontario) and Devonne Dalin (Sioux Falls, S.D.), freshman Camille Merwin (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) and junior Caitlin Conci (Craig, Colo.), each of whom won two individual event titles and combined for a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:48.88).

Medon clinched first in the 100 (59.15) and the 200 backstroke (2:06.57), while Devonne Dalin won the 50 free (24.48) and the 200 free (1:55.83).

Merwin beat out SDSU's Stephanie Young twice for the first-place title. Merwin won the 100 and 200 breast clocking in at 1:07.51 and 2:25.84, respectively.

Conci won the 100 fly (58.51) followed by Allison Maxwell (Fr., Rogers, Minn.) in second with a time of 59.22. The same duo placed first and second, respectively, in the 200 fly, Conci with a time of 2:09.24 and Maxwell touching at 2:10.37.

UND's Rachel Lee (Sr., Corvallis, Ore.) took first in the 1000 free (10:40.40) and the 500 free (5:10.15).

Kaitlin Bolinske (Fr., Williston, N.D.) swam into first in the 100 free (54.30) in front of teammate Kelsey Richels (Fr., Wahpeton, N.D.), who clocked in at 54.87.

The women's diving team made a splash taking first place in both events. Stephenie Varichak (Sr., Fridley, Minn.) won the 1-meter dive (229.35) and took second on the 3-meter (235.25). Teammate Rachael Waldbillig (Fr., Lexington, Minn.) took first-place on eh 3-meter with a score of 240.95, followed by Megan Keidel (Jr., Bismarck, N.D.) in third (227.55).

Also competing for UND was: Samantha Puk (Fr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa), Samantha Simon (Jr., Barrington, Ill.), Madison Porter (Fr., Dickinson, N.D.), Kara Fisher (So., Fergus Falls, Minn.), Katelyn Johnson (Jr., Albany, Ore.), Kathryn Fristad (Sr., Grand Forks, N.D.), Emma Abrahamson (So., Mankato, Minn.), Gabrielle Bunten (Fr., Forest Lake., Minn.), Brittany Schmidt (Jr., Grand Forks, N.D.), Dalonda Dalin (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.), Alyssa Bailey (Fr., Spearfish, S.D.) and Alexis Thomsen (Fr., Chisago, Minn.).

The UND men's and women's swimming and diving teams are in action next weekend against South Dakota, Friday, October 22nd and Saturday, October 23rd at the Hyslop Pool. Friday's meet will start at 6:00p.m. and Saturday's meet starts at 12:00p.m.
