South Carolina Long Course Swimming Championships

AUGUSTA, Georgia, July 27. THE 2010 South Carolina Long Course Swimming Championships took place July 22-25 in Augusta, Georgia. Y-Spartaquatics dominated the meet, winning overall with 1384 points, while also capturing both the girls and boys crowns. Team Greenville took second with 664 points, while Mount Pleasant Swim Club finished third with 525 points. City of Charleston Southern Marlins Racing Team (504) and Hilton Head Aquatics
(497) rounded out the top five.

Girls Events:
Hilton Head Aquatics dominated the senior girls events, including a sweep of all three relays: the 800 free relay (8:37.19), 400 free relay (4:05.33), and 400 medley relay (4:34.36). Courtney Collett was Hilton Head’s top performer, claiming five individual wins, including the 800 free (9:08.78), 200 free (2:08.19), 100 fly (1:04.42), 400 free (4:28.60), and 200 fly (2:19.64). Other Hilton Head winners included Emily Hammond in the 200 back (2:25.22), Fallon Kelly in the 100 free (59.71), and Mary Bolgan in the 1500 free (18:15.82).

Double event winners included Team Greenville’s Bailey Dowe, who swept the breaststrokes, winning the 200 distance in 2:42.61, as well as the 100 (1:15.67). Additionally, Riptides’ Keenan Lineback won both the 200 and 400 IM, in respective times of 2:24.58 and 4:59.34. Additionally, Lauryl Williams won the 50 free (27.69), while Southern Marlins Racing Team’s Caty Hueske rounded out the champions, winning the 100 back (1:07.99).

Notably, Riptides’ Megan Kingsley lit up the competition in the 13-14 age group, winning eight events, in many beating the winning times in senior events. She won the 800 free (9:16.13), 200 free (2:07.29), 200 breast (2:44.87), 100 fly (1:04.77), 200 IM (2:23.02), 400 free (4:28.97), 100 back (1:07.94), and 100 breast (1:17.18).

Boys Events:
Team Greenville and Southern Marlins Racing Team each won relays in the senior boys division. Team Greenville took the 800 free relay (8:07.91) and 400 medley relay (4:05.60). TG’s Andrew Tanzey won four events at the meet, the 1500 free (16:39.59), 400 IM (4:34.87), 200 IM (2:11.90), and 400 free (4:14.66), while his teammates Wyatt Boliek and Pablo Ortiz each won an event, as Boliek took the 200 breast in 2:30.41 and Ortiz claimed the 200 fly in 2:10.03.

SMRT took the 400 free relay in 3:40.69, while three of their swimmers took victories. BJ Hornikel matched Tanzey with four wins, including the 200 free (1:56.49), 50 free (23.94), 100 back (1:01.88), and 100 free (51.76). Brother Armin Hornikel won the 100 fly in 57.68, while their teammate Elijah Bohon finished first in the 200 back (2:13.36).

Other victories came from Y-Spartaquatics’ Graham Kauffman in the 100 breast (1:08.72) and Palmetto Aquatics’ Jonathan Boland in the 800 free (8:48.22).
