Sharae Zheng Dominates 1-Meter Diving on Night One of Mountain West Championships
The 2018 Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships began today at the Palo Alto College Aquatic Center. Nevada’s Sharae Zheng, who was named the NCAA Diver of the Year in 2016, dominated the 1-meter diving event to highlight the first day of competition.
After the first three events, San Diego and Nevada are tied for first place with 189 points. Wyoming is in third with 161 points followed by Boise State (135), New Mexico (128), San Jose State (119), UNLV (115), Fresno State (106), Air Force (98) and Colorado State (98).

Women’s 4×50 Medley Relay
The first event of the Mountain West Championships proved to be a close one. Boise State’s Allyson Kleinsorgen (24.52), Robin Pinger (27.77), Emmie Jennings (23.95) and Abbey Sorensen (21.99) won the event in 1:38.23.
San Diego State’s Alma Thormalm, Caitlin Delany, Summer Harrison, and Klara Thormalm finished second in 1:38.69 while San Jose State’s Colleen Humel, Shona Spikes, Brenna Bushey, and Brittany Heng took a close third in 1:38.86.
Wyoming (1:39.42), Air Force (1:39.66), Colorado State (1:39.77), Nevada (1:40.61) and New Mexico (1:41.05) completed the top eight.

Women’s 1-Meter Diving
Nevada’s Sharae Zheng defended her 1-meter diving title, winning for the third-straight year with a score of 352.41. Zheng was last year’s Mountain West Diver of the Year and earned All-America honors for two top-eight finishes at the NCAA Championships.
Wyoming’s Karla Contreras dove to second with a final score of 312.84. Zheng’s teammate Zoe Lei finished third with 300.48 points.
Wyoming’s Ceejay Harris (289.20), UNLV’s Mykayla Fielding (286.02), San Diego’s Alexandra Caplan (283.38), San Diego’s Marie Yacopino (265.14) and Fresno State’s Irina Nikolaeva (262.56) rounded out the top eight.

Women’s 4×200 Free Relay
Nevada’s Diana Sokolowska (1:47.03), Andressa Cholodovskis Lima (1:45.81), Caitlyn Richardson (1:49.31) and Rebecca Murray (1:46.02) won the day’s final event in a time of 7:08.17, dropping over seven seconds from their entry time.
Boise State’s Emma Chard, Cody Evans, Madison Frederick, and Hayley Hill took second in 7:11.39 while San Diego State’s Frida Berggren, Marina Preiss, McKenna Meyer and Kassidy Henson finished third in 7:12.28.
New Mexico (7:12.43), Colorado State (7:20.01), UNLV (7:20.40), Wyoming (7:20.63) and Fresno State (7:21.65) also finished in the top eight.
