SEC Women’s Championships Day 3 Finals: Rhyan White Doubles Up With 100 Fly, 100 Back Wins

The 2021 SEC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship continued with Friday’s Day 3 finals.

The 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 free, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke and 400 medley relay are on the schedule.

Alabama’s Rhyan White won both of her events on the evening, while Kentucky has a narrow team lead over Flordia heading into the final day.

SEC Women’s 400 IM

It was a huge start for Kentucky as the Wildcats went 1-2-4 in the opening event of the night.

Kentucky sophomore Lauren Poole dropped three seconds from her prelims time to won the 400 IM in 4:03.90.

The time was an NCAA provisional qualifier, as were the top 23 times from the meet.

Fellow Kentucky sophomore Gillian Davey finished second in 4:05.96, dropping nearly four seconds from prelims, while senior Bailey Bonnett took fourth in 4:07.83.

Tennessee senior Alexis Yager finished third in 4:07.75.

Rounding out the top eight, Arkansas senior Peyton Palsha took fifth (4:08.42), followed by Auburn’s Hannah Ownbey (4:08.81), Florida’s Kathleen Golding and teammate Vanessa Pearl (4:11.81).

Alabama junior Rhyan White started off her double with a victory. White won the 100 butterfly in 50.94, an NCAA “B” cut.

She is the top seed in the 100 backstroke later in the evening.

Texas A&M senior Taylor Pike finished second in 51.71, just three hundredths of a second ahead of Kentucky junior Izzy Gati (51.74).

Tennessee junior Trude Rothrock was fourth (51.88), followed by Auburn’s Jewels Harris (52.23), Tennessee’s Mallory Beil (52.28), Georgia’s Dakota Luther (52.30) and Alabama’s Gracie Felner (52.86).

Kentucky earned its second win of the night as junior Riley Gaines won the 200 freestyle. She touched the wall in 1:42.70, the first NCAA “A” cut of the night.

Georgia’s Courtney Harnish finished second in 1:43.58, tied with Texas A&M freshman Chloe Stepanek (1:43.58).

Florida’s Talia Bates finished fourth (1:44.05), followed by Alabama’s Morgan Scott (1:44.32), Tennessee’s Tjasa Pintar (1:44.64), Georgia’s Maxine Parker (1:44.71) and Alabama’s Cora Dupre (1:45.53).

SEC Women’s 100 Breaststroke

Georgia sophomore Zoie Hartman used a quick back-half to surge to the SEC title in the 100 breaststroke.

Hartman touched the wall in 57.40 to hold off Tennessee freshman Mona McSharry, who finished in 57.82.

Both times are NCAA “A” cuts.

Alabama’s Diana Petkova finished third (59.16), followed by Florida’s Cecilia Porter (59.44) as the 2-3-4 finishers in the race were all freshmen.

Florida senior Adrianna DeBoer was fifth (59.81), followed by Arkansas’ Vanessa Herrmann (59.95), Alabama’s Cat Wright (1:00.11) and Texas A&M’s Kylie Powers (1:04.69).

SEC Women’s 100 Backstroke

Alabama’s Rhyan White completed the double, winning the 100 backstroke after winning the 100 butterfly earlier in the night.

White won the 100 back in 50.36, an NCAA “A” cut to win the race by nearly a second.

Missouri senior Sarah Thompson was second in 51.27, followed by Kentucky’s Caitlin Brooks (51.63) and Sophie Sorenson (52.02) and Missouri’s Meredith Rees (52.22).

Georgia’s Gabi Fa’Amausili tied Kentucky’s Parker Herren for sixth (52.92), while Arkansas’ Kobie Melton was eighth (53.01).

SEC Women’s 400 Medley Relay

Georgia’s Gabi Fa’Amusili, Zoie Hartman, Courtney Harnish and Maxine Parker won the SEC title in the 400 medley relay, finishing in 3:29.41.

Tennessee’s Kaitlin Harty, Mona McSharry, Trude Rothrock and Tjasa Pintar took second in 3:30.18.

Kentucky’s Caitlin Brooks, Bailey Bonnett, Izzy Gati and Riley Gaines took third in 3:30.44.
