SEC Women’s Championships Day 2 Prelims: Rhyan White Breaks Meet Record in 100 Back

The 2021 SEC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship continued with Friday’s Day 3 prelims.

The morning was highlighted by Alabama’s Rhyan White, who not only swam a double, making the finals in two events, but broke a 12-year SEC meet record in the 100 backstroke.

Here is a look at what happened Friday morning:

SEC Women’s 400 IM

Kentucky sophomore Lauren Pool took the top spot in the 400 IM by more than a second. She touched the wall in 4:06.84.

Tennessee senior Alexis Yager took the second seed in 4:07.69, followed by Arkansas senior Peyton Palsha and Florida junior Vanessa Pearl (4:08.41).

SEC Women’s 100 Butterfly

Alabama junior Rhyan White used a strong back-half of her race to take the top seed in the 100 butterfly at 51.07.

Kentucky junior Izzy Gati took the second seed (51.84), followed by Tennessee juniors Mallory Beil (52.11) and Trude Rothrock (52.12).

SEC Women’s 200 Free

After winning the 500 last night, Georgia’s Courtney Harnish took the fifth seed in the 200 free, though the top six seeds are all within a half second of each other.

Florida sophomore Talia Bates took the top spot in 1:44.23, ahead of Tennessee senior Tjasa Pintar (1:44.40).

Kentucky junior Riley Gaines took the third spot (1:44.47), followed by Texas A&M freshman Chloe Stepanek (1:44.57), Harnish (1:44.75) and Alabama’s Cora Dupre (1:44.76).

SEC Women’s 100 Backstroke

Pulling a double, Alabama junior Rhyan White took the top seed in the 100 backstroke in 59.20 to break the SEC meet record.

It was previously held by Florida’s Gemma Spofforth (50.53) in 2009.

Missouri senior Sarah Thompson took the second seed in 51.51, followed by Kentucky’s Caitlin Brooks (51.86) and Sophie Sorenson (52.18).
