Scottish Long Course Nationals: Rebecca Adlington, Louise Pate, Robbie Renwick, Tom Haffield Win Titles

GLASGOW, Scotland, June 25. THE fourth evening of swimming at the Scottish Long Course Nationals featured individual crowns being dispersed in the women's 100 fly, men's 100 free, men's 400 IM and women's 800 free.

Rebecca Adlington cruised in the women's 800 free with a winning time of 8:35.76. She did not need her top-end speed to win the title, but still has the potential to go much faster as evidenced by her top-ranked 8:21.25 from the Barcelona stop of the Mare Nostrum circuit. Megan Gilchrist finished second in 8:41.61, while Jessica Thielmann placed third in 8:51.92.

Louise Pate topped the women's 100 fly finale in 1:00.53, just edging Hayley Towner's second-place effort of 1:00.77. Catriona Bruce completed the top three in 1:03.69. Robbie Renwick snatched the men's 100 free title in 50.67, while Craig Gibbons touched second in 51.03. Jak Scott just missed second place with a third-place clocking of 51.08. Tom Haffield followed in the men's 400 IM with a victorious time of 4:20.54. Lewis Smith wound up second in 4:21.74, while William Purnell earned third in 4:22.43.

In semifinal action, Ross Clark led the way in the men's 50 breast with a 28.89, while Kristopher Gilchrist qualified second in 29.00. Katie Avramova paced the women's 50 back in 29.39 with Jennifer Oldham placing second in 29.95. Pheobe Lenderyou also cleared 30 second with a third-seeded 29.97.

Kerry Buchan picked up the top seed in the women's 100 breast finale with a 1:09.82. Sara Lougher wound up second-seeded with a 1:10.87. Joe Canlan Shaw (58.08) and Richard Butler (58.36) qualified first and second in the men's 100 back.

Sara Hamilton clipped Claire Dawson, 26.36 to 26.39, for the top seed in the women's 50 free finale. Meanwhile, Andrew Mayor clocked a 53.86 to lead the men's 100 fly semifinal round.
