Scottish Long Course Nationals: Close Calls Highlight Third Day of Meet

GLASGOW, Scotland, June 24. THE third day of the Scottish Long Course Nationals certainly gave those in attendance some exciting finishes.

Ryan Bennett topped the men's 200 back in 2:00.88, while Craig McNally touched second in 2:03.22. Joe Canlan Shaw placed third in 2:03.36.

Joanne Jackson touched out Sara Hamilton in the women's 100 free, 56.75 to 56.98. Claire Dawson snatched third overall in 57.02.

Kerry Buchan edged Hannah Miley in the women's 200 breast, 2:30.58 to 2:30.74. Emma Bird placed a distant third with a 2:34.97.

Geoffrey Short claimed the men's 50 fly over Andrew Mayor in a close contest, 24.65 to 24.86. Daniel Scott took third in 25.45.

Georgia Davies snared the women's 100 back in 1:01.81. Katie Avramova (1:02.47) and Emma Hunter (1:03.61) completed the top three with second and third-place finishes.

In yet another close finish, Kristopher Gilchrist clipped Michael Jamieson, 1:02.31 to 1:02.48, in the men's 100 breast. Robert Holderness wound up third in 1:03.12.

In semifinal action, David Carry led the way in the men's 100 free with a 50.66. Robbie Renwick qualified second in 50.84. Louise Pate paced the women's 100 fly with a time of 1:00.69.
