Satomi Suzuki Sets New National Record at Japanese Championships

The 2018 Japanese National Championships kicked off today with athletes qualifying for the Pan Pacs team in every event on schedule.

The meet, which takes place April 3 to April 8 in Tokyo, will also serve as the selection meet for the Asian Games, Jr. Pan Pacs and the Youth Olympics.

Day one results

Men’s 400 Free

Naito Ehara turned in the top time of the evening in the men’s 400 free, getting to the wall first by nearly two seconds in 3:46.64.

Kosuke Hagino finished second in 3:48.47 and Keisuke Yoshida took a close third in 3:48.69.

Women’s 50 Back

Natsumi Sakai won the women’s 50 back in a quick 27.82, beating the rest of the field by exactly four-tenths.

Emi Moronuki finished second in 28.12 and Anna Konishi took third in 28.43.

Women’s 50 Breast

Satomi Suzuki got her hands to the wall in a new National record setting time of 30.64 during heats, eclipsing her own mark of 30.66 set at this meet last year. At finals, she posted a time of 30.95 for the win.

Miho Teramura got to the wall second in 31.02 and Kanako Watanabe finished third with a time of 31.05.
