Reigning ISL season MVP Sarah Sjostrom of Energy Standard will sit out the team’s next match tomorrow and Monday as she has been “dealing with some slight back issues for the last few days” and will be “following medical advice to rest” in her own words. Energy Standard raced in the opening match, suffering their first loss in franchise history to the Cali Condors, and will return tomorrow against the Aqua Centurions, New York Breakers and Toronto Titans.

Energy Standard has one of the top rosters in the league, and could still win tomorrow’s meet without Sjostrom in the line-up, although she will leave some big shoes to fill. Racing in six individual events in the first match, she currently ranks first in the 100 free and 100 IM, second in the 100 fly and 50 free, and fifth in the 200 free and 50 fly in the ISL through five meets.

Sarah Sjostrom was last season’s ISL MVP as Energy Standard prevailed over the London Roar with clutch performances from Sjostrom and Florent Manaudou in the Skins races. Their sprint depth was instrumental last season, and although they bulked up their roster with Olympic champ Pernille Blume, Energy Standard is really missing the Canadian duo Penny Oleksiak and Kayla Sanchez as well as France’s Charlotte Bonnet, who are not participating in the ISL for various reasons. Energy Standard will need to dig deep on their roster to replace Sarah Sjostrom for tomorrow’s meet as the team has not competed since October 17.

The team will be adding Dutch sprinter Femke Heemskerk, who had to delay her travel to Budapest because of a positive COVID-19 test, but she has since tested negative and will join Energy Standard this weekend.

Sarah Sjostrom should be ready to go for Energy’s third match November 5 – 6 in a rematch with the Cali Condors, and for their fourth match against the Tokyo Frog Kings November 9 – 10.
